Family Session: Zambrana

When you are a new photographer (yes photographing for two years and I still consider myself new!) you learn a little bit more each session.    Having a toddler myself, I sometimes don't realize just how difficult it is to photograph younger kids!  My son is so accustomed to being in from of the camera that taking photos has become a way of life for him but when I come across kids that are not used to all the photographic attention, I meditate on ways to make a session better. This session was destined for disaster but we made the best of it!  First, the location we originally had picked closed an hour and a half before we even got there. Then, our second location was flooded by the weeks of rain!  It didn't help that there was an event going on the part of the park that wasn't flooded.  We overcame some minor obstacles and more than one of us walked away with wet knees but in the end I think the final result was great! I chose to only show ...

Newborn In-Hospital Session: Francisco Javier Rivera Jr

It has been over a year since I last photographed a newborn in the hospital and I am above ecstatic that it was this little guy who broke the dry spell! Mr. Francisco Rivera Jr. made this an easy transition back into the hospital photography scene. Mom and Dad definitely gave me something good to work with because not only did they give me such a handsome little man to photograph but they also included a personalized background! I usually try and bring items with me to personalize a session and add the baby's name to the mix but this time I had all the work done for me!

Prayers for Charleston

This won't be my usual photography post. I know it has been a couple of days since the shooting at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in South Carolina but my thoughts and prayers are still with all the individuals involved. Above being a photographer, a mother, and wife I am a woman of faith.  As member of New Beginning Pentecostal Church it saddens me to see such a horrible act of hatred.  This was not only an act of hatred against African Americans but also the Christian church.   It is truly sad to see that during the 21st century we are still experiencing such horrible acts.  A church should be a place of refuge, a place to find peace from this crazy world we are living in not a place where you would encounter murderers.   I am afraid that this event is going to keep people from the church.  If you listen closely to the  news, Christians are being prosecuted daily for their faith.   Where did the love go? ...

New Beginning Pentecostal Church Picnic

I love taking newborn photographs but my next favorite would have to be event photography.   I take my camera to every event I go to including our church picnic. What I love about event photography is that I get unplanned photos!  Photos where the person doesn't know I am taking them so there is no time to get ready!

Favorite Photograph

I took this photograph just moments after I got my first camera.  I was playing around trying to get accustomed to the settings.  I snapped this candid shot of the two most interesting characters in my life!  These two never fail to keep me laughing!

Mini Session October 2014

This was a spare of the moment session with my husband and son.   These photographs were taken at Cohanzick Zoo.

Favorite Camera

The first camera I purchased was a Canon but I will admit my favorite camera that I own right now is my Nikon FG.  It is my very first film camera and I purchased it for a STEAL!!   I don't take it out much but when I do it is definitely for a special occasion. In our house, my husband has an extensive fire related collection.  For me, this is the beginning of my camera collection.  I know I will be adding to this collection all the time!

To Color or Not To Color

I will never take a photograph without taking a second shot in black and white.  Yes, I can go back and copy the photograph later and change it to black and white but again that doesn't feel original to me! It amazes me when a photograph looks amazing in color and then you take it again in black and white and it still looks stunning.  Unfortunatly, this makes the decision making process a little bit harder if you have to choose only one of the two.   Below is the same photograph but one is in color and one is black and white.  I love them both!  If I had to choose between the two of them I truly don't know which one I would choose.   Which one do you like better?

Getting Lost For Photographs

My favorite way of finding great photos is just to get lost!  Yup, you heard me right!  Thank goodness we live in farm central in NJ so sometimes getting lost is a good thing!   I am a big fan of unedited photographs.  I believe it makes the photograph more natural, unique, and beautifully original.  These photographs are completely unedited other than my copyright.  Just by switching settings on my camera I can get two completely photographs!   While getting lost in the back roads of South NJ I came across this beautiful structure.  The rusty warehouse had been transformed into a second had store but it still looked like the original outside.   Changing the setting on my camera gave me a beautiful antique feel that fit perfectly for this antique structure.  I also love the greenery around the building that just make the rust color pop! And of coarse I couldn't leave before taking a black...
